Hello to all. I'm a rookie when it comes to smoking but its a hobby i really enjoy. Thinking of trying my hand at jerky in the smoker but would like some input from more experienced people than myself. Any suggestions?

I recommend this for a beginning recipe then go from there.

3lb beef (thinly sliced)
1tsp salt
1tsp cure No 1
1tsp onion powder
1tsp garlic powder
1tsp ground black pepper
1/4 cup soy sauce (recommend Kikkoman)
1/3 Worcestershire

Soak 24 hrs turning a few times.

I place on skewers and put in the smoker at 100*F until dry. (All day)

Go easy on the smoke - maybe one chunk - then if you want more on the next batch add one more, etc, until you get it where you and yours like it.

There are a bazillion other recipes - this one is very basic.

patvj2,
Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ/smoke/brine/cure/inject. Well you get the picture if you can do it to something you put on a plate to eat then someone here has probably done it then smoked it.

Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with their opinion on the subject.

Bama BBQ has you covered on the jerky ! Just keep it simple to start with then change up the flavor to suit your taste after you gain some experience !

Always remember the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask!!
Keep Smokin!!!
