I live in Omaha Nebraska, I received an electric smoker for Christmas. This is the first time smoking anything for me. Any tips or tricks will be greatly appreciated. The smoker is a cabelas electric smoker.

I'm not familiar with your smoker, but I'm sure someone here will be along to answer any questions you have.

Welcome to the forum. Before my first smoke I read until my eyes blurred but it paid off. Pick the section for the type of meat you are cooking and start reading. Also look for the great Stickys at the top for primers on smoking.

Welcome to SMF! Check out the free 5 day ecourse. If you are new this should be of great help.
Glad to have you

Welcome to SMF Hunter...the 5 day ecourse is a must for new smokers, also the box on the left of the main page has a wealth of basic info about many things, including electric units in general. Poke about and read, and ask for info if ya need it...someone will have it!

Welcome to SMF! The first thing ya need to do, before you put any meat in that smoker is do a dry run. It's called seasoning your smoker and it's to burn off anything that may be left over from the manufacturing process. Give the inside a thin coat of cooking oil, then bring it up to 250° or more for an hour. After that add some wood and run it a while longer. That should get rid of any nasty tastes that might end up on your food.

Welcome to SMF, Boarhunter! Glad to have you with us! I hope you choice of screen name is an indication that you will have plenty of good meat to practice with in your new toy!

Cheers,
Brian
