First off I just wanted to say the forum looks great. I guess my first question is what is a good quality vertical propane smoker that does not require alot of modifications out of the box? I am really interested in getting into smoking but do not want to have to fiddle with the smoker to get it working right out of the box as I am not really good with my hands when it comes to making modifications nor do I really have the tools probably to do the modifications.

I was also wondering if the AMNS products are basically used in place of the chip pan and which is recommended for vertical propane smokers the tube or the box one? Also do you need to order your pellets from the website or can you purchase pellets from other places to use in the products?

Sorry about the beginner questions but look forward to hearing suggestions from other members here. Thanks in advance for any replies I may recieve and hope you all are doing great. I look forward to interacting in the forum and learning to do some quality smokes.

Welcome to the group hangin1

I don't know what to tell you about which virtical propane to buy. you might want to let others know what you budget is.

as far as the AMNPS and TUBE it will depend on space you have in your smoker. You can use other brands of pellets as long as they are food grade. todds pellets were designed for his gadget. So they may work better than other brands in his gadget.

yes you use it in place of the chip tray.

Happy smoken.

Thanks for the reply David, great information given and I would like to keep it under 300 if at all possible.

For a propane smoker you will want the Tube (AMNTS), not many people have had much luck with the AMNPS in propane smokers, just not enough O2 but the Tube has shown great results. A-Maze-N Products is a Great company with the best customer service anywhere and they run specials every month for SMF members so I can't see myself buying from anywhere else!

I have a GOSM widebody propane and I love it but I have made many mods to it to get it to perform the way I want it to. I don't think I would recommend it to someone who doesn't want to make some mods. When I first got it I had a real hard time keeping it below 250* and I fought temp swings all the time.

I know a couple of people on here who have Smoke Vaults and they love them and from what I've heard they perform very good right out of the box.

Thanks for the reply, I will take a look at them also before I make by purchase. I also appreciate the honest response about your smoker and glad you was able to get working good for you but you are correct I am not really wanting to have to modify the smoker I buy a lot to make it work.
