I'm looking for a new smoker to make beef jerky.  i will be using the new one to make more then jerky though.  I have a  Luhr Jensen little Chief which the chip pan is burnt through and is not insulated and unusable in Southern Cal in the winter.

It looks like people are partial to Master built units on the forum.  I found a Cajun Injector electric smoker.  has anyone had experience with them?

I am looking at the master built 30" unit with the glass door, probe and digital temp.  It looks like for the money it is a excellent unit

Also is there a place here that has the acronyms people use?

Thanks!

I also use the cajun injector smoker and it has worked great for me for the last year and a half. In the event of it's demise, I will go with the MES 40. It is a great electric smoker with upgrades from the cajun injector.

I don't know much of anything about smoking except what little I've learned - mostly from folks here - since I bought my MES40 at Sam's last November.  My wife convinced me that I've too old and forgetful to get a wood burner; so I settled for a watt burner.  I couldn't find any in my area that were priced right; so I dropped the dime (so to speak) for the MES at $299.  With new I got the warranty and I got to bring it home with me.

I recommend this smoker for the price point and for its performance.  Like any product, it has its strengths and weakness.  I found that the chip tray was too much of a hassle to keep loading and bought the AMNPS from Todd Johnson along with a bunch of his pellets made from different woods.  I definitely recommend the AMNPS.

Hope this helps you a bit.  Keep searching here at SMF and you will find a lot of questions and answers that should help with your decision.

Good luck!  And . . .  let us know what you choose and give us some pics!

The MES 40 for 299 is a normal price. I got my Cajun Electric for less than 199 and love it! If you are planning on long smokes such as PP, get the AMNPS from todd. It is worth it. Good smoking!
