First off I want to say how much I appreciate all the helpful information so freely given here.  Without all the great members sharing their experience and wisdom my early attempts at smoking would probably not turned out as well as they have.

One of the boys bought me a Cabela's electric smoker for Christmas.made by Masterbuilt and on sale for $99.99.  I am retired and the kids think I need things to do to occupy my time, so why not smoking.

At first I was a little dismissive of what could be done with such an inexpensive, simple electric smoker.  But with the good info on here I have smoked almost every weekend since getting it.  Pork tenderloins, fatties, stuffed burgers. meat loafs  and salmon have all been great.  Like so many hobbies the first piece is only the tip of the iceberg as far as expenses.  I have purchased 50 lbs of chips, 40lbs of pellets, an Anamnts, Igrill2 with 5 probes, digital scale, silicone mitts, 3 Rec Tec grill mats, welding blanket. propane torch to name the majors.

After two months I am starting to get this down pretty well on the things I have done and especialy repeated.  The little Cabela electric is easy to control temp on, but needs the blanket when down around 40 or lower.  The pellet tube has sure made it less of a hassle to get even smoke at any temp, the only real issue with the Cablea was holding lower temps and keeping the chips going.

I keep thinking I should get a fancier more expensive smoker but the results have been so great with my cheapie that I will just keep on smoking.  Might even buy another for the cabin in the woods.

So many thing yet to smoke!

    Thanks again,

Welcome to the forum!  It's not about the cost of the equipment as you have learned.  Smoking is a journey that can be experienced in many ways, enjoy the journey.
