Newbie - Houston Texas

  1. Have been using a gas grill for many years and just now getting into the charcoal grilling and smoking.

    I also have a electric smoker (Cajun Injector) that I used twice in 7 years.  Time to start putting it to use.

    I use the following:

    Weber gas grill - 13 years (Used continually)

    Weber charcaol grill - 2 months (Used weekends)

    Cajun Injection electric smoker - 7 years (Used twice . . .LOL!)

    Been using pecan wood, but have PLENTY of live oak trees and wood (Pretty sure this can be used for smoking [​IMG])

    Just found this website and looking forward to learn.

    Hi Jerryl and [​IMG]  to the SMF.  This is a great place to get information, advice, and praise.

    We like pictures, which we call Q-view, so be sure to take pictures of your smokers, grills, and anything you fix on them. Plus that's  da rules![​IMG]

    Here is a free q-view sample. 

    Pecan is an excellent smoking wood and so is oak.  Some experts say that oak is best for smoking pork, but I happen to prefer a mixture of cherry and hickory about 50/50.  The best thing to do with smoking woods is to experiment and decide which flavors you like best!

    Did some reading most of the day and had searched for oak which appeared to be ok for smoking.

    Not much on "live oak", but now I know.

    hi Josh here,just bought a Smokey Hollow #5 lastnite,$150 on sale.i started with a cheap walmart charcoal grill which i still have.i live in upstate N.Y. when i say upstate i'm 5 mins from the adirondack park.
