Hi everyone! I'm am totally new and totally clueless in the smokin department! All I can say is my DH has had this electric smoker for some time now and all he does is deer jerky in it. But I want to learn more about using it and how. Honestly, I don't know much except you plug it in, it has a little pan at the bottom for wood chips and racks for the meat. Can I use this for ribs, chicken and other meats? I really want to learn to use it as we really like BBQ. Any help here is very appreciated!!

Personally I don't have an electric smoker, but "yes" you can use it for many things...chicken, ribs, etc.

Just hang on and someone with an electric smoker will be in here.

Welcome aboard. Be sure to sign up for the 5 day Ecourse. It will help immensely. And ask away on the questions. Everyone here will assist you. Don't know what brand of smoker you have, but as long as you can get it up to about 215 - 225 you'll have no problem cooking all the goodies you mention.

Welcome to the SMF, if you have what I think you do you can do about anything you want in it. You will need a digital meat thermometer with a probe and some other things. You might think about starting with a small Boston Butt, they are very forgiving.

WELCOME,glad you found us.

Wow! You guys are fast! I can see I'm gonna have to stay close by and check in often. This forum seems to move very fast. The smoker has been around awhile and it is a Totem Food Smoker. As far as the temperature goes, it doesn't have a thermometer on it. Should I just purchase one to keep inside while it's smoking? And how do I adjust the temp?

You'll probably be buying a meat probe thermo soon, you need to know the temperature of the meat you're cooking.Without a pic of your smoker it's hard to say on anything else. Hang in there.

To speed up replys/awnsers some of us sit in front of our smokers with the laptop locked and loaded, along with ourselves loaded
