Hey there. I've been on and off this forum reading some of your helpful hints. Figured I'd join in and get some advice. I just built a double barrel smoker by hand and this weekend I smoked my first meal. I made a few racks of St. Louis ribs and they turned out quite well. Only thing was the mesquite lump coal which is the only coal I have access to at a decent price left a bit of a smoky flavor I didn't really like very much. But everyone else seemed to love it. I am able to get my hands on almond wood locally at 20 dollar for a wheel barrow which isn't very cheap or too expensive. I was wondering if anyone around here knows of somewhere I can get citrus wood and/or oak for a decent price?
Also I was curious if anyone has ever tried using citrus peels in the firebox for flavor? If I dried out the peels and toss them in for smoke would they leave a bitter taste? Or would they give off a sweet fruity flavor like their wood does?
Thanks
