Hello to everyone,
I am completely new to smoking meat. My kids just bought me my forst smoker, it is a propane smoker which I have read that alot of folks don't like but it is what I have. It is from Gander mountain a Smoke Hollow model. What would you folks that have some experience smoking recommend tht I try first. Thanks in Advance for everyones help.

Welcome to SMF Shorty!!! The first thing I would recommend is to sign up for TulsaJeff's 5-day eCourse. Lots of good info free of charge right to your email inbox. There are several things that are pretty good for a first smoke. I think a pork butt is a pretty good one myself.

welcome to SMF... as for a first smoke would be some store bought sausages, they are easy, prepared for you and cheap.... and as ultramag said, a butt, its very forgiving...

Welcome to SMF! Glad you found us!

Feel free to ask questions. The friendly folks here will make answer.

Take care, have fun, and do good!

Meowey

Hey Shorty ... Welcome to SMF

I use propane on both my smokers, I believe it is just as economical as other heat sources. To BBQ, you need to basic things ... heat and smoke. Learning to control both is the essential part. What you use for a heat source ... in my opinion ... makes very little difference.

Have fun!
