I'm a newbie checking in from Omaha,NE. I just got a free Master Forge electric smoker from a friend and I can't wait to use it. I know it's a cheap smoker but hopefully it will get the job done and can help me get my feet wet as I save up towards something nicer. I'm planning my first smoke this Friday and Saturday. I'm going to start off with something cheaper like chicken hindquarters or thighs on Friday and then try a pork shoulder/butt on Saturday. I bought the Maverick et-733 thermometer so that should help me keep all temperatures where they should be. Friday can't get here soon enough.

Im from Omaha too, just joined yesterday because i had a few questions. I frequently hit up the stores around town and find great deals on meats, i'll be sure to keep you posted when I do, Hy-vee off of 108th and Fort had some beautiful beef ribs that they had cut the other day, and Bag N Save off 108th and Maple had some awesome deals on chicken quarters and even whole birds. I often grab the deals when/while I can and just fire up the grill for practice.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop when you find deals. I'll try and do the same. I'm hoping to smoke a pork butt this weekend. So hopefully I can find a good deal on it somewhere. I think I'm going to start with Fareway and go from there.

I went out yesterday looking for more beef ribs. Couldnt find a decent rack to save my life. I went to No frills, Bakers, Hyvee, Bag N Save and Target, spent about 4 hrs running around...maybe its because the 4th is coming and they are all bought up......im down to my last 2 racks. Im starting a cook right now (through the sprinkling). Im going to upload some pics/vids.
