I'm new to smoking and SMF. I have have smoked a couple of turkeys and hams that have turned out okay, but I'm looking to smoke something great someday!!! I have a charcoal Super Pro Grill from chargriller.com. I can't to wait to become a better smoker so my wife will let me upgrade to a bigger smoker

Welcome to SMF tnelson42345. You're on your way to becoming a better smoker already. Read everything you can and ask all the questions you have. Give Jeff's 5-day Ecourse a shot for starters.

I didn't get the side fire box with mine. What is that used for exactly? I'm guessing when you want to smoke something with out actually cooking it?

The firebox will let you smoke with much less direct heat. With time I am guessing it will probably be a feature you will want to add and you can at anytime.

I've got the same grill w/ the side firebox. The side box creates indirect cooking. You get heat and smoke at a lower temp, and cook/smoke the food for a longer period of time at a lower temp. Makes for some of the best food you'll ever try, extra juicy w/ some great smokey flavor. I'd encourage you to get the SFB and give it a try. There are several modifications that can be done to your grill/smoker to help make temp control easier, etc. A quick search of chargriller mods will turn up many good ones.

Also...almost forgot welcome to SMF! Glad you joined.
