Hi, I just built a smoker and just started experimenting.  My smoker is a 4 ft tank that is 20 inches in diameter.  It stands upright and has 8 shelves and a fire box to the side with a damper in between the firebox and the smoke box.  The temp is controlled with a PID and generally holds the temp perfect. There is a circulation fan that keep the temp constant from top to bottom.   I built the smoker primarily to make jerky but I can see there are a lot of options when it comes to smoking meat.  I know I will enjoy this site and learn alot from the experience of the people here

Welcome to SMF glad you can join us.  We are big on Pics and love to help everyone out.  Remember the only question that is dumb is one not asked.  You will not find a friendlier place to talk Que on the web.

You are going to fit in just fine.

Thanks so much everyone for the warm welcome.  I feel right at home.  I was feeling a little discouraged with my first attempt at making jerky a complete failure (literally the dog wouldn't eat it).  I've been making jerky in a dehydrator for years and everyone around here loves it.  I'm feeling a little more confident knowing there is such a wealth of knowledge available and nice guys to give experienced advice.  I Smoke it, I live in Bonnieville which is roughly 30 miles south of Elizabethtown.  I'm right off I-65.  I'm about 40 miles north of KYDave.  I look forward to trying new things and ironing out the bugs in my homemade smoker.  I'll post some pictures as soon as I take some.
