Welcome to SMF cjk1977!!! Lot's of questions you have to ask yourself about smoker choice before anyone can really help. The biggest one is what kind of fuel source you want to go with.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I am paretial to using wood as the fuel source to get the variety of flavors associated with the different types. I do own a smoker but have not used it yet. I believe it is the brinkman premium gourmet grille and smoker but wanted to know waht people thoguht of hat one versus a horizontal one with an offset firebox. Thanks again for the warm welcome and looking forward to learn as much as I can.

Welcpme CJK -

The Brinkman is a nice little smoker! Great to get started with. I can't remember if that one was charcoal, electric or propane. They all use wood, it's just a mater of logs, chunks, chips, pucks or sawdust. If it's propane or charcoal I'd say use chunks. If it's electric I'd say go with chips. My Brinkman is all of the above I prefer charcoal and chunks. Enjoy!

Just checked and it is the Brinkman gourmet charcol smoker. Going to get is started this weekend after reading a bunch of tips on this site. Going to start with a nice brisket!!
