  1. Hi all. mike here from long island new york. just got a masterbuilt 30 inch electric smoker and as of now havent opened it yet. looking for a delicious and safe first recipe.

i was inspired to get into smoking after having visited arkansas and had the most delicious BBQ ive had to date.

i have plenty of questions and as soon as i figure out forum etiquette you'll be seeing me around.

Welcome to the forum, railroad. Glad to have you aboard. Get that smoker seasoned and start smoking. A suggestion for a first tool to get for that cooker is a maverick et series remote therm to verify cook and meat temps. Sometimes the mes are not the most accurate readouts and the mav will give you good info. A suggested first cook is to do a pork butt. Very forgiving. And you can slice, pull, use for sandwiches, etc. Hard to screw it up and will take all types of rubs and smoke. Use the search function here and you'll find answers to just about any question. All the best to you.
