New U.S. Member from Mexico

    Just startig new concrete smoker with electric double burner as heat source. Question as to need of bottom air supply. Have top vents but no bottom vent. Don't really see any need for one??

    I am a 7 month resident at the San Carlos (Sonora) Mexico who smoked Sierra mackeral for several years in a makeover refrigerator. I built a new home and had the contractor build me a cement smoker (about refrigerator size) onto the house. He put a well insulated door on the unit which seals well. I have a problem because he put 4 two inch pipe vents in the top and I am trying also to work out a way of cutting the vent size down to a realistic size. Always new challenges with any new startyup. Suggestions welcomed!!

    At 86 years of age I am switching to ribs and meats rather than fish. Always need a new challenge.

    You are definitely going to want an air intake of some sort on the bottom. Your two 4" exhaust pipes on the top may not be to bad as you normally want your exhaust to be wide open. If it appears that two 4" pipes are to much and you are losing to much heat with two of them figure out a way to close one up so you only use one of them. Maybe even something as simple as putting a coffee can over the one pipe could work for the time being. Those are just a few thought I had right off the top of my head. But like others said if you could snap a few pictures it would really help a lot for us to see what you are working with.

    jbar, morning.... I would leave the upper vents as they are.... I would also add an air intake on the lower portion of the smoker... maybe in the door with an adjustable gate on it.... the larger openings on the top will allow moisture to escape better....
