Burbs of Chicago
My name is Jeff, I live in the suburbs of chicago. I just moved out of the city and now have the space to buy a new smoker. I travel a lot so I have been able to try BBQ from all over the US. I will have to say one of my favorite spots is Oklahoma Joes in KC. If you are ever in the area you need to try the Z-man special.

For the last 20 years or so my Dad used a Brinkman Electric Smoker for ribs and pork etc and mainly for Tri-tip a charcoal smoker. I learned everything I know from him and watching TV shows on the Food Network. I enjoy keeping the family tradition going!

My favorite meat to smoke is Baby Back Ribs. Second would be doing pulled pork. I want to get better at doing Brisket, part of the reason Im here!

So the brinkman electric smoker went out on me and now I am in the search for a new smoker. I am looking at the Smokin It #3. I would like any feedback anyone has on this one. If anyone has any other options that may be better I would really appreciate it. Im looking to stay in the 500-1000 range. I would like to be closer to the 500 dollar range but if someone had a great one maybe I would pull the trigger and spurge a little.

So I'll end with, Im excited to get in invloved with this site and hope to share any knowlege i may have and learn from you guys as well!

Could you maybe use this to fix your Brinkman?

Amazon dot com "Brinkmann 812-3323-0 Smokeshop Electric Converter" Its for a conversion, but it might fit on your pit?

Just a thought

You might check the boards as to electric smoker consumer ratings.

The brinkman was thrown out by my mom without asking. I was living in the city, so I had to keep it at her house. I freaked out once I asked her for it and she said I threw it away. It could have been fixed, she didnt realize it.

Either way I wanted to get a larger smoker anyways to smoke larger amounts for big parties!

Welcome aboard, Jeff!  Glad you found us.  This is a great place to learn and share ideas on our favorite pastime...smoking and grilling great food!  There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another.  Any time you need help, just ask and you'll get plenty!

I don't have direct knowledge of Smokin It, but have heard and read great reviews.  Are you set on owning an electric?  In your price range there are some other great options in charcoal, stick burner, and pellet pits.

Jeff has added a new rule #11...He says "off site links" are not allowed.

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

I am pretty set on going with an Electric smoker now but may want to try other options later. My dad had two smokers so I have experience on a Charcoal smoker too. Just more comfortable with the electric.

What are some of the other options that would be a good choice?
