Hey Ya'll!

Been watching this site for quite a while just mainly doing some reading and getting ideas from ya. Decided to finally introduce myself and make it official.

Name's Rain. Im hailing from Indiana and I've been smokin for a few years. Mostly just small family stuff. Never got to do a huge smoke. Wanted to expand into doing a nice size Memorial Day Fest and see how things go. I have been the kind of person lately that doesn't like to buy things premade anymore. I started making much of my stuff from scratch so I've taken some recipes from here and other sites, put my own little twist on them and made my own version. Everything from sauces and sides to rubs and marinades. Still dabblin in anything i can try out next.

I am a pipefitter and a CAD designer. Since I wanted to expand my smoke sizes I thought I might start with a bigger smoker. Right now I just have a 30" vertical. Not the greatest but it works for what I do. Wanted something better and decided to use my CAD skills and design a smoker out of the 500 gal propane tank I have sitting in my yard. Got the CAD part done, just need to actually start the physical part. We will see how long it takes for that to get finished. LOL

Well just wanted to throw myself out there and introduce myself. And thank all you guys for the information I got from reading threads all this time.

Happy Smokin Ya'll!

Welcome from SC, Rain. This is a great site with lots of really good folks who are always eager to share their ideas and tips. All you have to do is ask and keep reading. Good luck with that smoker build. Be sure to post some pics as it goes along.

Keep up the smokin', Joe

Have you consulted any of the calculators regarding measurements? It looks to me like the RF plate is a little high. Also, with 5 shelves in the upright chamber, they may be a little close. I'm not a builder, but I have spent the last 49 years looking at piping drawings.

Good evening and welcome to the forum, from a really nice, sunny day here in East Texas. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

Yes I went through the calculators for everything.  I only have 3" between the RF plate and the bottom rack.  The only thing I could do is raise that bottom rack some.  The FB to CC opening came from the calculator.  As far as the rib box racks, I have 5-1/2" between each rack.  If I need any extra room they are always removable.  The one thing that worries me now is the RF plate.  Is that too close to the bottom rack?
