Hi Everyone!
Any time I look up a question I have related to jerky I get directed to this site. I've finally decided to join and take advantage of all it has to offer.
I live in PA, USA with my wife and child. My Father-In-Law is who turned me on to making jerky as he gives us a big bag of it every year, we love it - especially my son.
He gifted me a Nesco FD-60 Snackmaster[emoji]174[/emoji] Express Food Dehydrator - the same he uses - and I made my first batch some weeks ago. I used pork loin for the first batch and was very surprised how easy the process was (obtaining the meat was NOT). Needless to say I'm hooked. Today I bought 6lbs. of eye round and I'll be marinating that for the next 3-4 days.
I currently don't have a smoker, (though I'm looking) but I'm eager to get one and employ that into my jerky process. I'm also going to secure my own slicer and have been busy obtaining and creating some recipes of my own. I'm a computer geek by day and jerky novice by night and I find it's a really calming process with a great outcome. Letting friends and family try what I make to have them ask where I got it from, there's few feelings better than being able to say "I made that myself."
Thanks again everyone - great to be here.
