Thank you for having this great looking site and allowing me to participate.

I am new to smoking but have read a couple books.

Last year, I bought RedStone[emoji]8482[/emoji] 4 Way Charcoal & LP Gas Grill from Tractor Supply which has a small smoker attached.

Unfortunately, the only documentation was the assembly instructions so I haven't attempted anything yet.

I know this doesn't qualify as smoking but made my first deer baloney or summer sausage and cured it in my oven this past winter.

I am retiring on July 30,2013 and among the many projects I'd like to try is building a small smokehouse.

I will be getting some pigs and would like to smoke the hams and bacon.

I grew up on a farm and we raised pigs but that was a long time ago

I haven't had a chance to get very far but it looks like there is a ton of great info here.

Oh.  I am in western Pa about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us! Would you mind updating your profile to show the other SMF members where you are located?  Might meet some neighbors!

You might want to check out Jeff's Free 5 day E-Course, it has great information to use no matter your skill level!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members! (Yes....I had to edit your intro and remove the off site link)

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Kat

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I am amazed at the size of the membership

KathrynN, thank you for the tips.

I always try to be a good citizen and apologize that there were links to outside sites. I was just trying to show what I had.

SmokinHusker, I am halfway between Kittanning and East Brady. The Rock is about 35 miles.

Depemding how long ago you left the area, you wouldn't know Cranberry. It's like the Blob.  It keeps growing and growing and...

I am a rank amateur to smoking and look forward to learning and sharing.

I'm afraid I ask a lot of dumb questions.

I do that to save others who would be too embarrassed to ask anything so dumb
