Hi everyone,

I am new to smokingmeatforums. I hail from Saskatchewan, Canada. I just purchased my first electric smoke from Cabelas. It is a MES 30. I seasoned it yesterday and am eager to try it for real. I have smoked on my natural gas Q but am really looking forward to a more intense authentic smoking process.

With that said I am having a difficult time deciding what to try first on the smoker. Any suggestions are welcome. I am leaning towards ribs or pork butt.

Also I am wondering about what people have rigged up for their MES to sit/stand on as right now I have it just sitting on my deck. I am looking for ideas for it to sit up a little higher so I don't have to bend down so much. Thanks to everyone who responds and I am sure enjoying all the insightful information on this forum!

Welcome to the group. I hear you on the bending over part. Being 6'7" myself I had to build my own smoker to my height. I would think if you check how hot the bottom of the unit gets you could put it up on something. May have to use a stainless steel or blocking of some type. Good luck and keep on smoking. I also built mine to hold more at one time. Doing 3 slabs of baby backs at a time just didn't work for my.

Good morning and welcome to the forum. Chicken is east and cheap a good starter to get familiar with your smoker
