new to Smoking Meat Forms

    HI,    I used to do a lot of smoking years ago with a Mr. Meat Smoker but it has been probably 25 years or so since I have done this.  It was a pain in the butt about keeping charcoal hot enough and it had to be taken apart at least once to redo the Charcoal.  So I quit.   Getting ready to buy a new one.  Have been looking at the Electric Digital Master Built Smokers at Bass Pro. Think this is what I am going to buy as I can control the temperature the best with it.   One question I have, can it be left outside smoking during a rain or should I buy a propane one?  I do not have any rain protection area to use it in.   Would appreciate any input.

    [​IMG]to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us! Would you mind updating your profile to show the other SMF members where you are located?  Might meet some neighbors! 

    I have no problem controlling the temps with my Smoke's propane.  AND....I do my smokes just outside the garage...and if it rains...bring the smoker just inside the opening of the garage.  

    We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

    If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

    About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
    and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
    We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions Post it
    and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is because their
    are so many different ways to make great Q We all have our own taste.

    Welcome to the forums!  This is the best place I know for sharing ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable folks who really enjoy helping one another.  Just ask when you need help and someone here will have the answer.

    I never cooked in direct rain on my MES40...always used it on my covered porch.  I can imagine that there could be issues with the wiring and electronics if they got wet, but I'll have to let someone who's tried it to give you a more informed answer.

    I have a Bradley smoker and it clearly states to keep it under cover. I suspect the Masterbuilt is the same as another electric.
