New to smoking i need help

Im new to smoking im 16 and have fab skills and im wanting to  start to build a wood smoker with an old air tank  but i dont know what to do for vents where do they need to go and how do i regulate the heat of the fire and do i need to put any thing with the wood so it stays burning and anything else that is important
