Hello all,

Newbie here from CT and new to smoking. I have a Masterbuilt 7 in 1 smoker { won as a prize} and could use a little help. I have used this once so far and not very fond of this model. Smoking with wood only is near impossible to keep a consistent temperature, also a major pain to feed more wood/chips through the door - the water pan is right smack in the way. So during the last use I switched over and hooked up the propane tank and was able to maintain a constant temp. My question is, if I am using with propane, how much wood do I begin with and at what point do I add the wet smoking chips { pre-soaked}? When I added the chips during the initial use I could not get any smoke out of them. Also , any suggestions on making the wood / chips easier to add when needed? Make a large dent in the water pan?

fyi...I would much prefer to use this unit without the propane so any tips would be very much appreciated!

I have not used that model but based on my quick search it is not designed for wood. It is designed for propane or charcoal.

As for the wood chips. There is no need to soak them. All you are doing is waiting for the water to steam off before it starts to smoke.
