I am a dang good bbq guy but now I'm trying my hand at smoking. Got the little R2d2 Brinkman charcoal smoker. I'm just learning the art, trying to learn the lingo. What is the spray people spray on there ribs and why, how often? I live in the Seattle area, learned to bbq when I lived in Texas. I am an over the roadthe road truck driver, so my time at home is often spent trying things on my new smoker. I have seen some ideas for improving my little smoker, going to try them this week.

:welcome1: to SMF!!! We're happy you found us! You've come to the right place, we have over 45,000 members who just love to share their experience and over 900,000 posts describing it!

The search bar at the top can be your best friend when you are trying to find answers to your questions but you can still ask too if you want!

Would you do us a favor and add your location to your profile, it helps others to know where you are when they offer advice, Thanks!

You might want to check out Jeff's Free 5 day E-Course, it will teach you all the basics plus a whole lot more!

I don't spray anything on my ribs or anything else as a matter of fact! I used to but never really saw any results from it, just a loss of chamber temp whenever I did but that's just my opinion and there are many on here!

I did sign up for 5 day course, got day two in my email today. Is his recipe for the rub and sauce really that good, thinking of getting it tomorrow when I get home

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us! A lot of the members will "spray or sprtiz" apple juice on the meats.  Some will use alcohol...like Jack Daniels, Rum or what ever.  You will find that there are just as many folks who do spray and the others wont ever do it!

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums. http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/a/terms-of-service

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Glad you joined us sherrifdonkey, :welcome1: from North Dakota!
Spraying moisture over the meat is called spritzing and this can be what ever you choose; water, apple juice, Captain Morgan, etc or a mixture of your choices. It can add some taste to the product you are spritzing, but is mostly used to try and keep the product you are smoking from drying out.
