My husband and I decided to get a Masterbuilt 40 inch smoker as a 30th wedding anniversary present to each other. I have found the advice here so helpful and hope to one day know what I'm doing! We are from Lewisville, NC. Thanks to the folks in this forum, we are now armed with a Maverick ET-732 and a Thermapen. Thank you so much for this forum and for all the great cooks out there, sharing their stories.

Congrats on the smoker and welcome to the forum. Great folks and great advice here. First thing you want to do is verify the correct temp of the smoker with the maverick. The masterbuilt controller can be off by quite a bit so just go by the maverick readout. Then, because the mes 40 burns thru chips pretty quick, you may want to look into the AMAZN line of smoke generators. All the best to you.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Welcome to the forums!  This is the best place I know for sharing ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable folks who really enjoy helping one another.  When in doubt, just ask and someone here will have the answer.

Boy, do I agree with you about this forum.

I only started smoking last fall and I had limited success until I found this forum. I learned so much and got incredible assistance from the kind members.

I suggest you dive in and post some of your projects with pictures and descriptions. You will get great recommendations and new ideas from the responses.

Welcome to SMF.
