Greetings!

Just bought my first smoker, a Masterbuilt electric smoker, model 20070411, 4 racks with window door and meat probe.  My wife and I live in upstate NY, (elevation 1,444 feet) and are dedicated carnivores.  I've been BBQing for many years, but I am a complete novice when it comes to smoking.  I got the bug from my brother who smokes meats and referred me to this forum.  I seasoned my smoker today and plan on smoking a whole chicken tomorrow, just to test it out.

I will be hosting a family BBQ in 2 weeks and need all the advice I can get.  I plan on smoking baby back ribs and a pork shoulder for the BBQ.  My family lives 4 hours away and the only way I could lure them up here was with the promise of pulled pork sandwiches.  I've been checking-out the different threads on this forum and have already learned a lot.

Looking forward to sharing recipes and getting know some of you.

Thanks much,
E.S.

Hello and welcome to SMF! Congrats on the new smoker. I have an MES 40 and live in CO at about 8500 ft! Get yourself some good thermometers (both for me and one to check the actual cabinet temp). MES are usually off in temperature between the actual cabinet temp and the set temperature.

Good luck!
