Hello SMF!

My name in James the San Francisco bay area. I got my first smoker from my wifes cousin. it was in bad shape, Rust, thick grease in the smoker box, fire box had i guess was layers of rust. So once the weather got nice i went outside and went to town on the smoker. took apart the fire box (broke of four of the seven bolts). Took a hard wire bush and wire brush drill attachment and took off the rust. Then i painted. whew tired all over again.

Now to the good stuff.

Today i got two slabs of pork spare ribs. i have been up and down this forum getting all the info i can. i got some ideas and tossed on a rub, wrapped it up and its sleeping in the fridge. so any tips for a smoker newbie send em by

Hi James & welcome to SMF. I like your smoker & the xlnt job you did on cleaning it up & painting it. I hope that you used some high heat primer underneath the final finish coat. Looking forward to some xlnt smokes w/qviews.

Say James, looks like you're ready to jump start that smoker. Welcome to the SMF my friend.

Welcome to the forum. That's a nice job on the smoker.

Hello James, welcome to SMF. Nice job on the smoker. Looks like you've got it ready to turn out some great Q. Good luck with your spares. If you've searched the threads on pork, you'll be ok. Just remember to keep it low and slow, and thin and blue. If you haven't already, you should sign up for Jeff's 5 day e-course. Its got some good stuff for beginners.

Good job on the smoker

ok ran in to trouble... i got my coals nice and hot and i couldnt get my smoke box up to temp. what i think is the problem was i had the coals sitting on the "ash tray". its a tray at the bottom of the smoker. i took that out and moved the coals to an old rack to help get air in there. now im trying to get it to temp

keep yall posted
