Hi guys. I've never smoked or even eaten smoked food, but I've been watching way too many episodes of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives to not jump into this. I'm looking at a GOSM. Something's gotta take up my time when I'm not homebrewing!

Welcome to the forum Mike. Be prepared for the addiction you are getting ready to start. Be sure to share your Qview, as it helps to ease our withdraw symptoms when we aren't smoking.

    Newbie questions:

    1. What is a flat?
    2. What is a foil pan?
    3. Can someone recommend a relatively inexpensive thermometer w/ alarm and remote pager? I assume this is necessary?
    4. Basic rub recipe?
    5. I've read when the meat is done, you're to cover it and put it in a cooler for an hour or two. Afterwards, are you supposed to serve it room temp?

    Thanks!

Hey Mike welcome to the forum. Didnt get to ya yesterday. For the money Jeff's rub recipe is great! Otherwise, there is a link to rubs on the left hand side of this forum. Good luck to ya and stick around a while.
