New plywood smoker almost done

  1. I fired her up today to see what kind of temps I could hold. The lowest temp I could hold was 155º, I could hold ant temp I wanted up to 275º & could go a lot hire but I stopped there. I put wood in the pan to get smoke & put a large metal bowl of water inside just to have something in ther. Anyway, here are some pics.

Looking good - like RB said looking forward to your first posts

  4. Sweet looking.  What's the wavy material in the lower half?  I plan on using 1/4" cement board on the bottom section of my build, but I'm always open to other suggestions.

    Looking good.

Only thing better would be a nice chunk of meat nearing the point where its lookin like a meteorite.

  6. The wavy material is powder coated corrugated steel. The whole thing is insulated except the bottom & I still need to figure out a better latch for the door & a door gasket.

  7. I am in the process of building a electric smoker out of wood and and old oven for parts.  I used the door seal from the oven for my door seal.  I used alot of the insulation from the oven to insulate the smoker, I used alot of the sheet metal (with enamal coating) for heat shielding...  I even used the thermostatic control and the heating element from the oven to heat the smoker.

my freind bet me I couldn't build it for under $100.....   he lost!!

if you want to do lower temps then take an eletric hot plate and hook it up to a line voltage thermostat for electric baseboard heating.  should be able to maintain temps in the 65-95 range pretty easy.  you just need to create an different way to generate smoke from your heat....   amazing smoker to the rescue!!
