Hi all, been way to long since I have been here. My old MES bit the dust (element issue). Life (some health issues... Brain Aneurysm, prostate cancer and working) has been keeping me to busy to tear old one apart and see if I needed to do a rewire.

I started to get the Smokin bug again, so I figured just to replace the old model Masterbuilt (pre window 40 model) with the 2011 model. Since Sam's nearest me doesn't stock the smoker I figured amazon would be the way to go. When I ordered it they were out of stock, but the price was $314 total. I got an email from amazon to update that they would be in soon, for grins went on to the site and they raised the price to dang near 374... Yeah Right! Mine shipped a few days later for 314.

Awwwwwwww, life interrupted my pursuit for the TBS a little while longer (2 months). Now IT IS TIME!!! I also noticed something going on with Amazon, not sure what, but this notice is on the page for the Masterbuilt 40" model 20070311. It reads>>>

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible

I am not sure what is with that, I just opened the box, nothing appears wrong at this point.

Now to season it... I checked their instructions they are saying to pre-season it to run it for 3 hours at 275, the last 45 minutes to used soak chips. If my memory serves me right, didn't they used to recommend pre-seasoning it with cooking oil?

It is great to be back to smoking, I have sneaked in many times over past couple of years to keep up on some things and of course recipes!

Life is precious, hug the ones you love, OFTEN!!! I do believe the hugs are better with a cologne of TBS ;)

Welcome Back Matt...Very glad to hear you recovered well from your ill's. I have a MES40 and there is no mention, or from my research, need to grease or spray the Stainless Steel interior of a MES. After all isn't oil Seasoning to protect interior steel parts from rust? I could be wrong...

Thanks a lot for the WB, JJ.

I am not sure the reasoning for the oiling first, but maybe it is like seasoning cast iron, makes clean up easier, more of a non-stick surface, and of course rust protection (which shouldn't me much of an issue with stainless).

The health issues were easy for me, it is getting over the work part that is difficult!

I got mine from amazon and seasoned the first time without oiling. I did spray it down with PAM and wiped it out before smoking meat in it the first time just to make sure all the nasties were gone. Plan on cleaning the window after each smoke if you want to be able to see through it.
