I was a member awhile back but could not log back in. So my new name is Crown225.

A question I have is does anyone have problems with indigestion with smoked food. Seems like I am burping up after a meal. Not sure if I am doing something wrong. Using Pecan wood in my electric MES smoker.

Almost ready to sell the stuff I have but thought I would throw the question out there.

thanks

Well the misses says air makes me fart! Oh well. As far as smoked food you can always try a milder wood like apple or just less smoke. I use pecan almost always with little problem. Sometimes when I really pig out I will burp smoke but it aint the burp that bothers my wife! LOL

I have not had the issue personally with just BBQ but I know I get that way any time I am hungry and really scarf down on food fast. My family is known to be fast eaters so I really normally scarf down my food fast and swallow a lot of air and it does make me get indigestion when I do that. Could it maybe be some of the BBQ sauce you are using as well that your body could be reacting to it??????

I think it is the smoke, I use the same BBQ sauce for grilled items. Just did my first chicken on the MES and I suffered from it. The rest of the family seemed ok. Seems weird posting this stuff but I can almost taste the smoke flavor coming back up.

I might try the apple wood and less of it

I'd try changing the wood your using and see if you have the same problem, if not then use less pecan from now on. I get heartburn so I don't add ass much cayenne to my rubs, it helps.

YES i have a problem w/ smoked food and tomato sauce and the copenhagen i dip plus a few other things.
It's called Acid reflux or GERD.
I have to take a pill everyday for it.
There is an OTC pill you can try from wal mart . Won't hurt you if you don't have refulx but will make you thank god if you do. Takes a few days in your system before it reachs maximum effect
Wal Mart markets it as maximum strength acid reducer active ingrediant is ranitidine.
Google symtoms of acid reflux and see if you have any more of the symptoms and check w/ your doc before taking any meds.

Welcome to SMF!

Thankfully i do not have any stomach issues with smoked food or most anyother food for that matter... I think its only a matter of time though... Also, I am usually having plenty of Beers when i am smoking, so I wonder if that plays any part in that... Just drink more when you smoke LOL!

Welcome back to the SMF, it's better the second time around a smoke. I would try using less wood and hope for improvement with the digesting problem.

I once thought I needed to see smoke pouring from my vents. I've now learned that less really is more. Everything is better with just a little of that smoky taste. My fruit woods even create a better, more subtle flavor.

Thanks everyone for the info, going to try it this weekend with less smoke and try apple

thanks again

you are not the only one with this problem. I've noticed this for years now. usually later that day or next day I'm ok to eat bbq,did it with stick burners and now pellets which doesn't have the creosote as wood and charcoal. I don't know.

Smoke, beer, beans, grandma's deviled eggs and grandpa's home grown cauliflower make me a bad choice to ride caboose with in a bobsled race.

Not that the chances are strong that will happen, just thought I'ld warn ya all ahead of time.....

I used to have that same problem but then my heart doctor put me on this little white pill and I have never had a problem again since. Protnix is a great liitle pill but you can fine some good OTC that work I think it's prilocex or something like that.

I agree with maballi. I too use protonix, but it's only by presciption. I have found a bottle of pepcid complete that is over the counter & works VERY fast.

I did some ribs with apple and used less wood, it helped but still had some issues. Going to try it again with less wood.

thanks for the help

Welcome Back!

The combination of onions and Smoke do it for me....

I use only Apple and Hickory for smoking. Mesquite is too heavy and makes me sick. I've had issues with too much smoke in my MES and created some creosote on food. Gave me terrible heartburn!

Does grilled meat do the same thing to you?
