Novice and wanting to learn the art. Ordered a 60" offset pipe smoker from Lone Star Grillz. Chris is located just north of Conroe, TX. Good unit I think. Quality is outstanding. Visited his shop and toured the facility. Almost bought a Old Country Brazos at Academy. Checked out other smokers and manufactures on the internet. Glad I looked around. Spending more but a cooker that I'll be happy with and not have to modify to use.
Looking forward to input from you "Pros".
Located on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.

Welcome to the board! Use he Search to look up that smoker and see what people do with them.

I run an offset stick burner, but not today, it's 11F up here.

jbgates,
Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ/smoke/brine/cure/inject. Well you get the picture if you can do it to something you put on a plate to eat then someone here has probably done it then smoked it.

Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with their opinion on the subject.

Those Lone Star Grillz look very nice!! Just like any new pit I am sure there will be a learning curve involved! Take your time, learn your pit, and I am sure you will be pumping out some great Q soon! Remember to post up some pic's cause we all love to see Q-View.

Always remember the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask!!
GO BUCKS!!
Keep Smokin!!!

Man that looks good,  Are you sure your a first timer ????

Gary

Yes, I'm sure.
Getting a Guru later but wanted to learn the pit manually before I use the fan.
Got tuning plates good. Even temps both ends of this 60" chamber. Used the basket ( minion method ) with some hickory and pecan logs on top. Got 12 hrs out of the charcoal. Added oak to finish the cook.
You guys help me learn.
Thanks
Jim

I would get to know and be very comfortable with your smoker FIRST  then start doing the mods.

Gary

That's what I saying. Pit doesn't need mods. No leaks, even temps, good quality.
Once I learn it, I can get the Guru to free up my time more. It's set up already for one.
