Ran across the site when I was looking for reviews on the MES I saw at Sam's club. All the reviews @ SAMS web site were very positive and read about 120 reviews on cabelas and only saw 4 bad reviews. Bought one Tuesday at Sams and have been seasoning in for a couple of hours this week. Going to try ribs tomorrow on it. What is every ones option of the MES. I smoke every Saturday during college footbal season and got tired of running out to check temps and wood all the time and missing parts of the game. I hope this MES works as good as the reviews turn it on and walk away. Also does any one have a good recomedation on a good thermometer to buy. The ones I get @ Wally World blow. Great site! Glad I found it.

ROLL TIDE!

Hi and welcome. I have mine for about 3 weeks and I love it. I have done some fatties, whole chickens, pork loins ribs, country ribs, chix thighs, and a brisket. All came out great.

One thing you should do if you haven't is go back to Sam's and buy a 3 year extended warrantee for $39.00 since the unit has only a 90 day.

I bought 2 Taylor therms from Target, don't have anything to compare to.

Good luck.

Welcome to the SMF!! I've used a couple of different remote ones...Taylor and an Accurite (I think that's the name) and they both work well. Make sure you check them once in a while in boiling water (212 to boil water, depending on where you live) to insure they are giving you the right info.

Welcome to SMF! I've been using my MES since early December and love it! It's nice to be able to set it for a time and temp and then just let it go... adding chips as needed. The only "issue" I have is that the timer function is pretty much useless... I usually just set it for a couple hours past where I think it's going to take and then go by the temperature of the meat. Sometimes I end up extending the time anyway. Other than that it's been great.

The other you'll need to do is get another thermometer for checking the accuracy of the MES' internal temperature. Mine seems to be consistently 10 degrees higher than the temp indicated by the control box, so knowing that I just adjust the temperature on the control unit for 10 degrees lower than I want to be.

Good luck and happy smoking!

Roll Tide, BamaFan!!!

Glad you've joined us at SMF. Although I don't have a MES, wanted to welcome another Bama buddy on board! Good luck with your new rig!

I did buy a taylor from Target and will test it tonight. I think I have found the right place for me to cook. Love to smoke food. My neighbors come running when I smoke wings during football season and when I do a ham. Geaux Tigers except when the TIDE is in town.
Have some ribs wrapped and will let you guys know how my first time on the MBS works out. If any one want to know how I do my hams will glady share.

Welcome to the forum, Its a great place. Congrads on the new smoker as well.
