I just bought a Masterbuilt gass smoker and I am ready and excited to get started!  I noticed in the preseasoning the smoker stop smoking after about 20 mins, is this normal? I used two cups of soaked woodchips. I plan on starting with a chicken for my wifes birthday dinner.

Thanks!

Welcome! Yes is is normal at first, you will constantly be seeking a better method for making smoke in your gasser (which is half the fun for me). Start by using big chunks, big chunks with small chips all around, soaked, not soaked. Try different containers (cake pan or cast iron skillet) just keep after it! Also you are looking to make "thin blue whispey smoke" not white billowey smoke. Also check the accuracy of the stock thermo, they are usually way off. The next thing you should purchase is a digital thermo (or two if you can swing it).

Thanks! I did order a digital thermometer today. I also figure what the heck, I had one rack of ribs in the fridge and a couple pieces of chicken. So I am trying my first meal. Tomorrow is the big one with smoked whole chicken for my wife’s birthday dinner! When I was breaking in the unit the heat was high, there is less smoke at 250 degrees. Thanks again for teh advice.
