Hey guys. Just joined after reading some threads. I just today got my pit barrel smoker and I'm very excited.

Here is my info. My name is ken and I live in buffalo ny. I just got my 30 gallon barrel smoker. I have never smoked anything before but love eating it and really want to learn how it's done. Here are some pics for u guys. Just wanna know what I should try first?? Chicken? I don't like fish

Congratulations on the PBC. You are going to love it. Set it and forget it simple and the food it produce is spectacular. I really enjoy cooking ribs and Cornish hens on mine. It almost works like magic on both. But you can cook absolutely anything on it with par excellent results. I say hang some chicken and ribs both at once! Enjoy the new PBC.

Id try a fatty first its next to impossible to mess up. Also pulled pork is pretty simple. Get a couple 5-6 lbs ones cover then with mustard and put a heavy brown sugar rub on nice and thick so it will build a nice bark. Give yourself about 2 hrs a lb cause it will stall at 165 and you need to get it to 205 for pulling. Pulled pork is my favorite.

I'd do this too.

Ya have a bunch of possibilities.... Ya could do chicken, pork butt, ribs , fatty, or ya could do a reverse sear steak !

I agree about the Fatties.  They are so versital too.  I've also found chicken to be real easy.  I made chicken this weekend.  It was my third smoke.  My neighbor flipped over it.  No matter what you try, the point is to smoke!  lol

Well guys thanks for the comments. I did chicken than pork shoulder and they both came out great. I order the maverick 732 per reading on here. It just arrived and I picked up a 8lb pork butt from my local butcher. He even trimmed it up for me when I told him I was using my PBC. He knew about it right away. So I am going to do that tomor for my fantasy football draft Saturday. My buddies r going to flip. Here r pics of my pork and chicken
