New Guy & Over Injection??? Help!

Okay, I'm a relative newbie to smoking and new to this site.

I've got two 4.75 pound butts I'm going to be smoking for the 4th. I decided to inject them, however the recipe I followed was for two 8 - 10 pound butts.

By the time I realized this, I was 3/4 of the way through injecting the second butt.

Here's the recipe I used:

1 cup apple juice
1 cup water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 Salt
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Am I screwed or is there something I can do? As of now, the injection has been in the butts for a couple of hours. I'm afraid the butts are going to be way over salted.

Your injection looks to be more about adding sweetness than salt. In my experience, much of the injection liquid seeps out overnight. Only so much you can inject into a butt without it leaking. I think you'll be fine.

The line about salt in the ingredients is supposed to be 1/2 cup salt, if that makes a difference.
 
Hmmm...yeah, that's a fair amount of salt. I'm surprised you were able to inject that much liquid into a butt, but my guess is you're already seeing a lot of seeping out of the injection. Still probably won't matter. Many rubs contain that much salt. You can always cut back on the salt in your rub if you're making your own.

LOL  It wasn't easy and it did pee on me but yeah, there's already a fair amount of injection juice in the bottom of the ziplocks.  I figured I'd empty them out and massage the butts and try to coerce more liquid out after about 4 hours total and then back in the fridge until rub & smoke time tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the insight & help.  The butt turned out excellent.  I did stall in the 170's but ended up having to wrap it and finishing it off in the oven due to time constraints but everyone loved it.
