Just signed up and looking forward to learning a lot from everyone.  I own a El Cheapo Brinkmann that I bought for $10 at a yard sale a few years ago.  So far, I have only used it to do beef and turkey jerky, but have had some amazing results.  I modified the ECB almost immediately to raise the lower rack so I could hang jerky from both racks using bamboo skewers.  I very much enjoy the creativity in making the marinades because the sky is the limit regarding styles and taste.

My favorite part is the 8 hours tending to the smoker....yes, essential equipment include a comfy lawn chair, cooler full of favorite beer, radio, a good book, and the tailgate of my truck as a work station.  Can't wait to try some serious cuts of meat with the knowledge I'm gaining from the website and forum.  Glad to be part of it all!

Welcome to SMF. Glad to have you with us. I agree the long smokes are great to do. If you haven't done so yet sign up for the free 5 day ecourse. Great information in it.

Now there are a lot of proven recipes for some amazing things here too. So if you need sign up for the E-Course it's free and it will give you the basics of smoking and some good methods to use also. So the next big thing for you to do is go out and get you something to smoke and if you happen to have any questions just post it here and we will be happy to answer them for you.

Welcome To Your New Addiction

Welcome, fellow smoker!  Lots of help with your addiction here! (I'm afraid we're just a bunch of enablers though (LOL)!  i did the same thing with my jerky and the skewers in the ECB until I acquired a larger upright with WAY more grates.  A great solution to having a small patch of grillestate.

With thinking like that, you'll be helping others pretty soon yourself!

....
I just noticed:

We got guys on here from SE Pa, NE Pa, SW Pa, and Central Pa, but I can't remember any from NW Pa.

What do you think Bob---Snow get too deep up there near Erie for proper air flow around the smoker???
