New to smokin' and to forums, Please be gentile.
I would like to start this weekend with some ribs. All I have is a propane grill that I just bought. (not enough in the budget for a smoker too) Any suggestions on how to set up a propane grill to smoke?

Cheez,

First put you meat on the opposite side of the grill & your heat & smoke on the other side. Of course you"ll need a gauge inside to let you know what temp you smoking at, & last do not forget to have a way for the smoke to get out our your meat will tatse awful. Good luck & don't forget the qview!

Welcome to the SMF. Do some reading on indirect smoking/grilling, you'l find a way to smoke those ribs. It's all good my friend.

First off welcome Cheeses dude to SMF. You can smoke on a regular grill all you have to do is used the burners on one side of the grill and either put your chips in a foil pouch or a small pan and then put your meat on the other side of your grill. You'll like it here cause there are abunch of good folks here that would just love to help you out with just about anything to do with smoking. We really like to have newbies here because they can bring in a new propective to how things are done. There's nothing like a new set of eyes to give and new way to make things that little differant to make things alittle better. So I hope you know about the Qview here.

Welcome to SMF Cheezeerider. We are glad to have you here. Please enjoy your stay. As for your question; You could use wood chips in a metal wood smoking box, (you should be able to pick this up at your local BBQ joint, Wal Mart or hardware store. Place the chips in the box at close as possible to the fire & smoke away. I don't know how the other gasers here do it but I'm sure someone will throw in their thoughts pretty soon. Good luck.

Thanks for all the advise. Never thought about the smoke needing a way out. Not sure I can pull that off w/ my current grill. But I do still have my old one lying around. Old grill + cordless drill + sawzall. Sounds like a long Friday night.

Welcome from Austin, TX. I used a Weber Genesis for years to smoke chicken. I made aluminum foil packages, put in wood chips -- not chunks, and put them on top of the flavorizer bars. Then I used indirect heat.

Hope this helps. You're going to get all the info you need in this forum. Happy smoking & grilling.

Hello from Indiana, welcome to the forum. I'm building one right now, but I have never had a real smoker. I used to just put a metal skillet of soaked wood chips on the charcoal in my grill and it did pretty well, better than nothing anyway.
