I am from Montana and got into smoking after tracking the smell of a pit smoker for blocks. After seeing and smelling what the smoker produced, I had to have one. I weld and fabricate for a hobby, so after three big smokers, I have kept one long enough to use it. I built a reverse flow design. One thing I always put on my cookers is some chrome, usually in the form of the stacks. I have used stacks from trucks and Harley's. smoking meat is a blast and am having a lot of fun trying different meats. Attached is a photo of my latest smoker and some of the build pictures.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us! Love the shiny one!!  Good job!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a Kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Got a question regarding how long it takes to get my smoker up to a good cooking temp. I had no idea what I was doing when I built the firebox in relation to the cook chamber. I had heard of some calculations one could do to figure out the size of each.....I obviously didn't do the calculations before I built this smoker. It works well, but takes about an hour to get it all heated up. The winds here where I live can be a problem and if the humidity is low, it cooks great. I used 10 ga steel, which is a little light compared to what I have read about other smokers, but to make it manageable when moving, this is what I did. Is this time normal for this big of a smoker? I threw a picture in here to show the relative size of the cook chamber.
