This is all new territory for me, cant wait to get reading this site for all the info! I'm from western Pa and recently got a Masterbuilt 30" electric smoker. I cook over a fire all the time which is the closest to smoking I've come. Any advice would be a huge help and greatly appreciated!

Cumminsmoke61,
Welcome, from southern Ohio, to the best forum on the internet if you are looking to learn how to BBQ/smoke/brine/cure/inject. Well you get the picture if you can do it to something you put on a plate to eat then someone here has probably done it then smoked it.

Use the search bar at the top of the page and you will be led to the answer to most every question you can think of. If you don't find the answer there then just post it and someone will chime in with their opinion on the subject.

My first bit of advice for you, get a dual probe digital thermometer, most here recomend the Maverik 732 or 733. With this you will be able to monitor the two most important things in smoking, Pit temp. & meat temp.

Always remember the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask!!
Keep Smokin!!!

Thanks for the advice! I am going to do the initial season in my smoker this afternoon, do I need to coat the inside with anything meaning the grates? Like I do to all my cast iron with fat?

Thanks!!
