Hi Everyone, My Name is Gerrit. I am 31 years old and a Novice smoker. I have a Big Cheif Electric smoker and mostly make Beef jerky. My first ever smoke was redicoulus. I did not understand the directions and Used pan after pan after pan of smoke till the meat was dry and was shocked at the taste. I then decided to research on the web and figured it out and since then I have been the talk of my family and friends for my beef jerky.

I am planning to buy the Brinkman Charcoal Vertical Smoker very soon so I can start doing tri-tip, butts and all those wonderful meats. I still like my electric smoker but I am soo limited on what I can do with my electric smoker.

Anyways I am also a weather photographer here in Southeast Idaho. I also take photos of Fireworks, Nature and Scenery. I love the summer cause thats when I am out bbq'ing and fishing and taking tons of weather photos.

I look forward to sharing and learning recipes and techniques and everything else this forum offers. You guys got a great forum here, very informative and neat.

Gerrit,

I just started smoking about 4 months ago. I started with a Brinkkman Vertical Charcoal smoker or ECB. I have since received a GOSM smoker for Father's Day and I love the convenience of gas. However, I would not give up the experience that I gained from my ECB. I highly recommend you buy one and start smoking. Once you check out some of these forums, you will want to smoke things you would never have thought of. I am planning to smoke a Chuck roast and a couple of Fatties this weekend on my ECB for old times sake. I love Jeff's rub recipe or Alton Brown's Rib rub. I have used Altons's on all kinds of pork and on beef. I have just started using Jeff's. Either is a sure fire winner.

Post pictures when you get started and dont be afraid to ask questions. I have found everyone in the SMF to be glad to help.
