Hi James, and welcome from your neighbor to the east, in Myrtle Beach SC. My family and I really like the Stone Mountain area. Been there many times. Lots of great people here ready and willing to help you when you need it.

You may have seen him, owns Gordons limo Service. As I mentioned in my original post I am getting a OKJ LONGHORN IN A couple of weeks. I have learned so much about this smoker in the past few days. Several post on mods for the OKJ gave me great ideas for making it better than it is out of the store.

I also have been introduced to other smoker options but sofar I think I will say with the LONGHORN.THANKS TO you all an I will say tuned.

my new OK Joe's was delivered yesterday from Lowes. She is big and beautiful and heavy. Seasoned it today, sprayed with original Pam and fired it up using one Weber charcoal starter of coals and a large stick of pecan wood.Let it burn for about 4 hours getting to a high temperature of 300 degrees.Monitored temps in several places in the CC and of course they varied wildly. Using my Maverick grill level temps were 20 to 30 degree different from end to end. Temps on the stock thermometer were up to 50 degrees hotter.

There are some problems with leaks around the lid and exhaust that I will try to fix using Permatex High temp silicone.I have done a couple of mods already . Now waiting for my convection plate to to arrive from Horizon.Debating if I should smoke something or wait for my plate.
