Welcome to the forum. Get that smoker home, season it and then get some meat on there to smoke. You are going to love smoking and this site is a wonderful place to ask question, read and learn.

Thanks...

for some reason I just tried posting a topic in another area, and I guess I am on a pre moderated status for posting in certain areas. So I guess Ill post my question here as well, since it looks to be a safe bet.

Im looking to buy a Smoke Hollow 30" electric or the Smoke Hollow 34" LP smoker from gander mtn today. I am wondering what the consensus is on electric vs gas when it comes to this brand?

Im in south florida so the weather is normally very nice, we are looking for something easy and inexpensive to operate.

Plans for smoking are: beef, pork, chicken, sausage, veggies... we are not fans of turkey or seafood, so those we probably wont get into.

If we go the LP route, how long does a tank last when smoking?

Thanks in advance.

Yea you first couple of posts will have to be approved by the moderator. Its not very many and then you won't have to deal with that. I think it is used to cut back on spamers maybe???? Not sure but it will be over very soon.
As far as Propane vs. Electric wood burning its all a toss up. Its like the Ford, Chevy, Dodge thing. (Ford is better though

) Everyone has their own likes and diss likes its pretty much a personal preference. Most people actually have several smokers so they have a variety. I personally have never had an electric so I can't comment on how they run. I have two propane rings and one UDS which burns charcoal/brikets/Lump wood. You can get a lot of smoking out of one LP tank. I can't say for sure how long because it would depend on a lot of things, wind, outside temp etc.
Hopefully someone with experience on an electric will be along soon to throw some input your way as well.

Welcome to the forum, Withoutink!

The propane question has been debated regulaly over several years and pops up quite often. The solution to tank longevity is, and repeat often, TWO TANKS......TWO TANKS.....!

You will only have to run out on a Sunday evening prior to a Monday holiday once to be convinced of this wisdom.

Keep us posted. I am a propane user more for convenience and lack of the time needed to pay attention to a proper smoke. Too busy farming

Cheers!

Welcome to SMF! You will enjoy it here, nice quick answers from experianced folks on just about any question you can think of. My bbq learning curve has bent sharply torwards putting out good q quickly thanks to the advice I recieved here.

The fuel debate is full of folks passionate on every side. It ultimately comes down to your preference and what you perceive to be the best mix of hassle, price, and taste. Everyone has a different preference on those variables so there is no set answer. I prefer to use charcoal and wood for fuel, but I don't mind the hassle and don't need it to be 'set it and forget it' like others do.
