All,

I just found this wonderful site a few days ago and I am hooked! I can not believe the wealth of knowledge on this site! I just started smoking a year or two ago, and my father just built me this cooker this past Christmas. Come to find out it is all wrong based on everything from this site. Mainly the firebox is way to small as well as the chimney is way to small. I need to make some mods without my father getting upset. He lives in FL and I am in VA so I will only see him once or twice a year... It may be a year+ until he sees it.

This is currently a grill/smoker. I love the idea of an RF build. I think this would be a pretty simple modification by adding the larger fire box, changing the smoke stake and adding the RF plate & drain.

My questions is once the RF plate is installed, can you use this for a grill as well with a removable charcoal rack above the RF plate? I am assuming yes if i put some air vents that could close in the back/front for a supply to the charcoal?
