I'm so envious JN051. I'm stuck in Seattle and I have found a frig but can not see/buy it until the 23rd..........Yours looks great .........

Hey Scrappy, patients my friend. And I am not the one to tell you that. My wife thinks I have gone crazy, she is telling all our friends she is worried I am going to smoke everything we own. And I asked whats wrong with that. I couldn't be more happy with this thing. It does a great job.

Well my wife just rolls her eyes and says things like "That's not coming into my house" or "I'm not leaving my car outside so you can build that smoke'n thing" real encouraging stuff like that.........5 days and counting............hopefully............

And she will be just as proud of it as you when its done and you start cooking for her. I PROMISE !

+1 on this!! My wife thought I was nuts, once I had it finished and painted she was bragging to her friends and family about "our new smoker"...LOL! I'm ok with it cause it just means I get to do something I love, smoke meat!

Jno 51 what did you decide for a heating element, 1500 or 3000w?? I have a double burner in mine on a PID and even with both burners going and dampers closed I cant get to barley 200degrees, is that a brinkman replacement burner?? I hope so cause I just ordered one. 1500w

Thanks Steve.

"Amen Buddy" Josh mine is the same way. Very seldom do I do anything like this that gets the kuddos, but when they  like it, it make the rest that much easier. Scrappy you will win her over, hang in there man don't give up. Just 4 more days bud.

Yes it was the brinkman,( good order), not sure how big your box is. Mine 3'x 19 wide and 16 deep. It was the 110v 1500 watt replacement unit. you will have no problem if your unit is insulated. It was about 40 degrees outside the night I tested it. I can assure you I had no problem. Good luck with it and keep me posted.

JNO 51 - got it last night and works great got it up to 250 no problem in under 1 hr with damper 1/2 closed did not go higher since I donn't think I will be smoking over that if I go over that I might as well put in oven cause then you are cooking. - doing ham for xmas hope it turns out I figure 250 for about 3-4hrs then pull, and do you put water can in your fridge if so where?? thanks

Amen Bud, thats what you were looking for. Good luck on the hams for Christmas Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas. "UP IN SMOKE" from Texas.

How did you make the damper? I'm building mine now & need a way to make the damper. Do you have any pictures of it?

Thanks!

I bought my frig and its very close to yours. I have a couple of questions. I had a bunch of plastic knobs holding the racks in place that had to be removed, what did you use to plug them up????? If i use a replacement element how do you wire it for 110???? I cannot see how you wired yours and I'm no electrician??? I'm currently waiting on my PID from AUBER.....Yours looks great, mine is a little more rusty then yours so that's an issue I'm dealing with but I'm on travel to Seattle so i only get to work on it one day a month...............

Ok Bud, good job and it's time for a little fun. I did not plug mine up. I will take a pic in the morning for you to see what I did. I went to Lowes and found some hangers you use on peg board. I used a 110 replacement element for a brinkman. I found it at Acadamy. You will wire it to your pid and make a plug coming out of your pid to plug into your wall outlet. You can sand it and paint it in a day easy.

legendjay, here you go. I am not sure this will help you that much. This stack is 3"dia x 18" tall. It is flanged on the bottom and installed from the inside. As for the damper I have yet to close it off while smoken. It has been open ever sense I started using it a few weeks back. I have ran it 12 to 15 times with out ever messing with it. The top is a piece of metal that came with the brinkman element I picked up for my heat source. I believe it was meant for a drip pan. I used it for the top of the stack.
