Thanks Pork,

My price list is from start of idea to today. Includes every single dime I had spent from tools to block and kept very receipt. No labor or fuel was added as costs.

If you hired a mason contractor it would run you $2-3,000.00 for labor alone.  (footings, block laying, door build, flues and air dampers)

Total professional (contracted)  job I would estimate at $4,200.00 - $4,700.00 all you do is write the check!

Guys need some tips!

Where do you get a large amount of vermiculite for a good price?

planning on filling the wall cavities for insulation.

Good evening Pork.

I've never used it personally.   If you have a masonry supply in your area, they can probably point you in the right direction or they may even carry it or get it for you.

I know I am coming in late. I live in East Tennesse. If being inspected bottom of footing needs to be a minimum of 12" deep and dug to solid soil. Footing should  be 8" thick.

Thanks sphumbard,

Im approx. 8 inches thick on the pour, not needing inspection etc. so the 12inches deep isn't an issue.

Ok guys !

It's been slow going due to winter but I snuck another day in.
You can now see where the door to the smoke area will go ( on the right)
Sealed the fire brick floor with furnace cement and added a few tot he walls to get a feel for it.

Can't wait for the warm weather I am going to put an arch on the furnace area once I get the walls tied in.

I also noticed after multiple days of sub 25 the slab is looking good so no guarantee but a little more confident now.

You are doing super!
My brick smoker has just a slab due to winter. I have been very busy building my steel doors (4) just about finished.

I was scared to lay brick with overnight lows as well as sub 25 for a while. I will wait till may with 40 for a low.

YOU ARE LOOKING GOOD AND HAVE ENTHUSIASM!

I'm back on the task !! (Moved house put a damper on my remote projects)
Starting to roll, the brick over the furnace, once this is done outside walls and doors.

Probably going to insert some steel for strength above the furnace, not sure?

Any advice?
