So I made the decision to get a smoker/grill whatever.  The problem is I have no clue where to start and what to consider.  This has been going on for days and I've no finally decided for someone to point me in the right direction.  I'm kinda leaning towards charcoal or propane.  I've been looking through the Webers and the Weber Smokey Mountain seems to be where its at.  However, its hefty price tag and the fact that the holidays are around the corner makes that one a no-go (for now).  In the meantime, I have a budget of about $100 and I promised my wife I'd make a nice Christmas dinner with whatever I get.  Um.....help?  Thank you in advance.

Welcome from SC. it's good to have you on this great site. You might want to go to the search bar at the top of the page and read up on building a UDS. This will be within your budget and will make you some really good cooks.

Good luck and good smokin;, Joe

Glad ya joined us!  I've got a WSM and love it.  Brinkman makes a similar model that is around your price range.  I'm not sure as to why it's not as "good" as a Weber, but I'll bet you could make some tasty food with one.

I second the build of a UDS (Ugly Drum Smoker - they aren't actually ugly). You can build a good UDS for under $100 that will work great and last a long time. Only need a few basic tools, and there are lots of instructions on builds in the forum under supplies and equipment section.

I have the 22.5" WSM and love it, but a well built UDS is the next best thing and at a fraction of the cost.

I agree that a UDS is a great low budget smoker, but $100 is a tight budget for one. If you can get a free drum then maybe but it will probably be closer to $150 or even $200.

Have you thought about electric? You can get an electric brinkmann at home depot for $75. It isn't the most versatile smoker but it is great to learn on.

My first smoker was a electric Brinkmann. Made many of nice briskest, ribs, shoulder/butts and turkeys. About $80 at Home Depot

Recently bought a pellet smoker grill - was going to give Brinkmann to my son but couldn't part with it. Bought one for him

It would be a good way to start your smoking adventures
