Thanks the only tools I have are a snap-on 140 amp welder, 7"angle grinder and  a 14" metal chop saw, though I am a body man by trade I do love building things as a hobby. I just bought one of them there taiwan made plasma cutters today off of ebay I hope it is a good $300 investment
Must be a body man thing. That is what I do for a living, and built mine with a minimum of tools at home too. Mainly a grinder, cut off blade in circular saw, and Lincoln wire feed.

Looking good.

From reading the welding boards, I see alot of post that talk of taking the covers off and checking all connections before you even plug it in. I have heard both good and bad from the Chinese units. I ended up buying my at my local welding store just incase something happens to it, I dont have far to go to get it fixed. Shipping scares me.

Pls keep us posted and of course show us pics in action.

The ideas are unlimited on the stuff you can make with one. My latest is a couple pig cut outs that are handle holders for my cook door.

well got my plasma cutter ( a month ago ); I got the simadre tech cut 50rx with the 60amp torch so far it works great; I was a little nervous about buying a chinese plasma cutter but like I said it works great so far. sorry no pics of it in action as of yet kinda hard to take pics and operate at the same time lol. I was able to make the c.c. opening cut and get the smoker up on the trailer; next is mounting it to the trailer fabbing new supports, fabbing the grates and finishing the reverse baffle and adding the stack  pics to come soon once I download them from the camera

well I guess it didn't work alls it comes up as is photobuckets home page  will try and figure it out later wanted to share my progress

Moparman

How big is the FB box on the 250gal RF smoker (dimension) also the vent on the FB box. You sure seem to have it going on . I have read alot of forms and i must say you are the best as far as making it easy to make this . Thanks,   Greg

Moparman,

Onemore question what are the dimension of the two doors on the cooker ? and front door of FB.  Thanks, Greg

Hey Greg THANKS for taking the time to check out my build and Thanks for the compliments I will answer your questions in order; the fire box is 30" w x 30" d x 24" t : the vents are 4.5" t x 10" w  the pit doors are 28" w x 22" t the fire box door is 18" t x 22" w all my doors are framed with 1.25" x 3/16" flat stock. I used the pit calculator for my build; I would post a link to it but my big computer that I have it saved on died, if you use the search feature at the top of the page; and type in (Pit Calculator)  you should be able to find it no prob. it is in a microsoft excel format.

if you use the pit calculator it gives the minimum values to function I went a little bigger than what was called for with the pit calculator as it is easier to slow down things down rather  than trying to speed things up

Once again I thank you for checking out my build in progress if you have anymore questions please ask away and I will do my best to help you out,

I hope to have this at least functional by the middle of next week ( gotta make it to the SWAP CABBAGE Festival on the 25th ) man I'd better get busy LOL ;  I got the charcoal basket all fabbed and welded up; I still gotta finish up the reverse plate and fab up the grates I hope to have new pics up soon.

Nice fab work!  It appears that this is not your first ro-deo!  Nice welder too!

Thanks guys for all the compliments.

@hmcm thanks I was kinda skeptical  on this welders capacity ; 1/4" single pass with it only being a 110v machine and claimed 100% duty cycle at 140 amps and. I can say I'm quite impressed with this machine so far.

@S an M bbq  I'm also gonna put a couple drains in the fire box as well to help with cleaning.

I took alot of my inspiration from alot of the builds featured throughout this forum, alot of talented and knowledgeable  people here

Stupid question . Is all 250 gal propane the same dimension ?  Also for morparman if i may ask what are your dimension of your RF smoker. Thanks

Mine 250 gal propane tank it 30" dim. by about 8' - 9' long . that seem right ? not to sure if mine is a 250 gal.  sure seem big was hoping for may 150 - 200 gal. Oh well........ guess it cant be to big can it ?

My tank is 30" in diameter by 96"long by 1/4" thick . by the measurements you gave it sounds like a 250 gal. tank , and no different tank manufactures them differently one makers 250 maybe anothers 275 . Hope this helps ya out

Morpar ,  Did you weld your rf  plate on top of your FB or do you a gap ? whats the dist. from bottom of your tank to rf  plate ?

Hi Greg; no I didn't weld the R.F. plate to the top of the firebox it is about an inch above it and the R.F. plate is about 9" off the bottom of the tank and has about 2.5" of drop from the f.b. to the end of the r.f. plate I didn't want that much drop but the drain pipe slipped and didn't realize it until it was all welded in.

Now where is my camera & cable so I can upload pix of of the recent progress got all the r.f. plate finished, grates done, charcoal basket done and a shelf built still not done to the way I want but at least she will be ready to start smoking after she has a date with the media blaster ( kinda rusty inside still )
