A friend of mine  (Hiya Dave) discovered some salt pork and ham hocks in his freezer and asked me for suggestions on how to use them.  After the obvious big pot of beans suggestion, I was fresh out of ideas.  Any of you have other creative uses for those?

My Mom used to make fried salt pork. Sliced like bacon and dusted with a mixture of flour and fine corn meal, then fried up crispy like bacon. Smoked ham hocks are also great in a big pot of greens, or with sour kraut.

  • Thanks guys.  I bet they would go good in a big pot of greens!
