2 where on the cord do put it

3 are they water proof or do i  need to build something to keep it dry

Hi, John. I don't have a lot of knowledge on PID, but I got rhrough it with a lot of help from Forum members, notably Keith. The unit I have is from Auberins.  I don't believe you can do it for $50, probably close to $100. I built a small plywood box for mine. I will definitely try to keep mine dry. I ran a 12 guage cord with a plug into the box , did the wiring inside the box, and put a receptacle on the box. This way I only hook it up when I need it. I simply plug the cord on the box into my extension cord (also 12 guage ), and plug the smoker into the receptacle on the box.  By the way a relay is also required (SSR) between the PID and the smoker.  SSR is also available from Auberins. There probably other units available, but I only have knowledge of the unit I have. If you think it would be helpful, I could TRY to post pictures of my setup. Ernie  P.S. I expect to use it for the first time this weekend. I tried it ,and it holds temp where I set it, but have not actually smoked with it yet.

ty for replying but i gave up on my electric smoker and bought a propane smoker.   im not sure but is there away to my propane smoker digital?
